Hello everyone -

I hope you are all doing well, surviving, and trying to thrive in these strange times. I know I miss contact with people, and definitely miss hugs!

For all of you new, first year students to the CPSY Program - welcome!  I hope you have settled in well or will be settling in soon to your new environment.

This is just a reminder that orientations for new students will be September 24th, most of the day. Thursday Morning, September 24th, will be department and Program orientations. The afternoon has College of Education and Graduate School orientations.

The Counseling Psychology and Human Services (CPHS) larger Department includes these programs and students. The first part of the September 24th Zoom orientation will include all of these graduate students:

  *   The Counseling Psychology doctoral program (I am Academic Program Director, Ellen Hawley McWhirter is Director of Clinical Training and Director of the Spanish Language Specialization).
  *
  *   Prevention Science (PREV) doctoral program and masters' programs (Leslie Leve is Program Director of PREV)
  *
  *   Couples & Family Therapy masters' programs (Jeff Todahl is program director)
  *
  *   Family and Human Services undergraduate program (Krista Chronister is Program Director). (Undergrads will not join us on the 24th.)
  *
  *   Beth Stormshak is Department Head for all of this.

And For fun, you might be interested to know that your CPSY Director of Clinical Training, Ellen McWhirter, was in a folk music group for years during grad school.  Her group had a reunion performance last year in Phoenix. (A fundraiser event for St. Joseph the Worker job preparation and placement center for the homeless in Phoenix).  Here are two songs from that concert.  One is a Joni Mitchell classic, the other one is an Ellen original.  Both songs - at the end of summer and the beginning of something new - seem well timed right now!
