Dear CPSY Community,

Would you like to hear some POSITIVE news??

The National Latinx Psychological Association recently announced accomplishments of NLPA members, including the awards and leadership of two phenomenal CPSY graduates. Part of what helps me cope with this onslaught of negative events, and the systems that keep perpetuating these events, is knowing about the ongoing efforts that so many of you are engaged in to bring about change. What you see below is only a slice of what Drs. Cerezo and Blanco-Oilar contribute. Congratulations to them both!!

Alison Cerezo
Dr. Cerezo was awarded a Hellman Family Foundation Grant and UCSB Academic Senate Grant to study the impact of intersectional stigma and social stress on mental health and substance use in sexual minority women. The grants will fund ongoing partnerships with community organizations in the Los Angeles area that serve Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ individuals.

Dr. Cerezo and her team were awarded the Georgia Babladelis Best Paper Award from the Psychology of Women Quarterly. Their paper was considered the best paper of 2020 for the journal - Cerezo, A., Cummings, M., Holmes, M., & Williams, C. Identity as resistance: Identity formation at the intersection of race, gender identity and sexual orientation. Psychology of Women Quarterly. doi:10.1177/0361684319875977

Christiane Blanco-Oilar
Dr. Blanco-Oilar was elected as President-Elect of the Florida Psychological Association and will be the first Latinx immigrant from Mexico elected to this role at FPA.

Thank you for your work and your commitments!!

Ellen
