For Clinical Supervisors

Greetings! My name is Dr. Michael Ellis, and I am a professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology at the University at Albany. I, along with my colleagues Drs. Rodney Goodyear and Carol Falender, am inviting you to participate in a study regarding your role as a clinical supervisor. Adequate supervision is a critical component to counselor and therapist development, and client outcomes. With guidelines in place specifically for clinical supervision, we aim to assess supervisors’ confidence in implementing the competencies set forth in these guidelines. The goal of this study is to develop and test a new measure for clinical supervisors (i.e., the Clinical Supervision Self-Assessment Scale-CSSAS).

We need a minimum of 300 participants, so we really need your help.

Ø We are seeking pre and post licensure psychologists and psychologists in training who are at least 18 years of age, and currently providing clinical supervision to participate in our study. Your responses will permit us to develop and test the psychometric properties of the CSSAS (Clinical Supervision Self-Assessment Scale)
Ø To help us get a diverse sample of over 300 clinical supervisors, please personally ask at least 5 (five) of your colleagues who are clinical supervisors to participate. This is the best way to get folks to participate—a personal invitation.
Ø The measure (52 items), plus the demographic questions, takes approximately 15 minutes or less to complete (honestly!).
Ø We require that all items be answered with the exception of demographic questions. This will help with assessing the psychometric properties of the measure.
Ø Participation in this study is completely voluntary and confidential. We do not collect personal identifying information.
Ø Under new Federal guidelines, this study qualifies as exempt research because there is no more than minimal risk associated with participation in this study.
Ø To participate in the study:

Sincerely,
