cpsylist: Celebrating NLPA's 2018 Awardees

Dear CPSY community and graduates,

The National Latinx Psychological Association has just announced the national award winners who will be honored at the NLPA conference this coming weekend. Two of our own CPSY community members will be honored, one current student and one graduate of our program!

Please read below and join me in congratulating current student Bryan Rojas-Araúz, winner of the 2018 Stephen E. Rose Award, and Dr. Alison Cerezo, program graduate and winner of the Distinguished Early Career Award.

The Stephen E. Rose Award
“… is conferred upon an undergraduate or graduate student who promote the emotional well - being and mental health of youth in ethnically diverse communities”. The award is designed to “encourage Latina/o scholars” and support their commitment to “conducting research with and about Latina/o youth in high school or young adults in college.” Bryan has been engaged in research with Latinx adolescents throughout his time at Oregon.

The Distinguished Early Career Award
“…is conferred upon a psychologist whose contributions have advanced an agenda congruent with NLPA's mission.” This mission includes to advance psychological education and training, science, practice, and organizational change to enhance the health, mental health, and well-being of Hispanic/Latina/o populations. The scholarship, teaching, and service commitments of Dr. Cerezo, who recently accepted a tenure track position in counseling psychology at UC Santa Barbara, have been an outstanding example of that agenda.
