  *   Keep in mind that LRP application reviewers are assessing an applicant’s overall potential to succeed in a research career by evaluating an applicant’s: (1) previous training and research experience, (2) commitment to a research career, (3) strength and quality of letters of recommendation, (4) quality and appropriateness of the research environment, and (5) research progress (for renewal applications only)
  *   Don’t be afraid to ‘separate yourself from the pack’.  Brag on yourself and your accomplishments within the application.  Most applicants spend time describing deficits, not accomplishments.
  *   Apply early!  Don’t sweat the headache of a last-minute application submission, or the simple mistakes that occur when you rush an application.
