Dear all CPSY students:

Here are some recent, end of year, CPSY faculty decisions regarding curriculum and other areas that affect your life.

This is based on student feedback, administrative demands and changes, faculty brainstorming, and our continuing desire to improve your training and create efficiencies where we can. Please contact me and/or your advisor with any questions:

Happy end of a long term and year!! - Benedict

1. Student Credit reductions: Students no longer need to register for 16 credits each term. Minimum enrollment for full time status and to maintain a GE is 9 credits per term. To be sure, you will likely have terms in which you will enroll in 15 or 16 credits. But it is not required that you fill out your schedule to 16 credits each term.

2. Related to credits: Students should always register for credits commensurate with your workload. For example: if you have a heavy research year - then register for more CPSY 601: Research credits or more CPSY 607: Docsem credits that year consistent with hours worked (3-4 hours per week work = 1 credit). However, this metric should be applied to the whole year, not just the particular term. This gives you flexibility in enrollment as an aggregate for the whole year - NOT on a term by term basis. Ask your advisor about this if not clear.

3. Not new: Students should continue to try to accrue as many clinical hours, through externships, in the summer months as possible.

4. When enrolling for summer externships or research please register for only 1 credit for only 1 summer session when enrolled in summer.

5. Externships will continue to be determined on a student by student basis - faculty will not change current practice. Two new things:

    a. Students are not allowed to have 2 externships during Child & Family Prac.

    b. By end of first or second year in the program, students should create a multi-year externship plan to determine commitments in years 3-5. This needs to be approved by your advisor and by whole CPSY faculty as well.

6. CPSY History and Systems is now eliminated from the program. If you have enrolled and are completing an incomplete - please continue to do so to complete your work in the class.

7. All EDUC Courses - your Quantitative stats sequence -will all become 3 credit courses beginning Fall term, 2018. (There is no college decision on the qualitative sequence).

8. College level Program Evaluation courses are now all 3 credit courses.

9. CPSY 651: Advanced Individual Interventions is now eliminated from the program. (Content will continue to be tied into CPSY 609: Adult PRAC).

10. CPSY 602: Supervised College Teaching is no longer required for all CPSY students. CPSY 602 will now be an ELECTIVE. ...however...

11. CPSY students who are teaching GEs should still plan to enroll in the Supervised College Teaching course as an elective. This will correspond to the supervision you will receive from a faculty member for your teaching activity. Plan to enroll concurrently with your teaching - although for GEs teaching all three terms they may enroll for one term- but continue to expect to participate in teaching supervision throughout the whole year as needed and determined by the faculty supervisor.

12. The Teaching Competency and Portfolio requirement is now eliminated from the program (see competency requirement Number 9 in student handbook). As of Fall, the teaching competency and portfolio will no longer be expected of any student (including current students).

CPSY Faculty are continuing to brainstorm and debate other ways to reduce student load in the program.
