CPSY Community,
The Raza Unida Conference is EARLIER this year (Friday Feb 2nd) and they are having trouble getting workshop presenters. Proposals are due TOMORROW. Please see this letter pasted below from the conference organizers (UO students) and propose if you can. Please forward this to other students who might be willing to offer workshops. Ellen
Dear Community Members and Faculty, December 6, 2017
My name is Yomaira Tarula and I am the 2017-2018 Raza Undida Youth Conference (RUYC) coordinator along with Veronica Fernandez.
University of Oregon MEChA, would like to announce that we will be hosting our 14th annual Raza Unida Youth Conference (RUYC) 2018 on Friday, the 2nd at the University of Oregon EMU Ballroom. RUYC is an all day event where we invite Latinx high school students from Lane County and other parts of the state to come to our campus and participate in a day filled with Keynotes, workshops, a campus tour, and relationship building. In past years we have hosted just over 500 students, and the multitude of workshops available made the conference an even greater success. This year we are hoping to improve the experience of the students and give them a memorable conference that will change their lives and empower them as students of color.
MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán) is a student organization that has been active at the University of Oregon Campus for fifty years. We strive to promote awareness on issues related to Latinos on campus and in the community. One of our primary goals is the recruitment and retention of Oregon's Chicanx and Latinx students in higher education. MEChA's intent is to ensure that Chicanx and Latinx cultures and philosophies are being represented at the University of Oregon and in our surrounding communities.
The motto of Raza Unida Youth Conference is Educación: El Derecho De La Raza! (Education: The Right of the People!). Based on the unfortunate events and political climate that has impacted our Latinx community this past year, the 2018 RUYC theme will be Floreciendo juntos (Flourishing Together). This is a reminder that no matter what struggles we face, as people of color, we will thrive.
"They tried to bury us. They didn't know we were seeds."
With this in mind we are asking and inviting community members, alumni, university students and faculty to present workshops during the RUYC. We are looking for workshops that discuss topics such as culture, indigenous roots, identity, education, gender, sexuality, and immigration. We hope that both the students and you, the presenter, will gain a stronger sense of community knowledge and will feel invested in the students' lives and future education.
UO MEChA cannot do this on our own and we need people like you to help make this event a success. If you choose to participate as a workshop presenter, please let us know as soon as possible! But in order to make the necessary preparations we are asking workshop proposals to be submitted by January 12th. Multiple workshops are also welcomed and encouraged as we will have two sessions of workshops. First session from 10am-11am and second session from 1pm-2pm. Presenters are invited to stay for the duration of the conference and are welcomed to lunch. You will find the workshop presenter form in the link below.

Briefly describe your workshop and accommodations you may need.
If you have any questions please contact the RUYC email at raza.unida.youth.conference at gmail.com<mailto:raza.unida.youth.conference at gmail.com>. We look forward to hearing from you. Please forward this to anyone you think would be interested in providing a workshop for the conference. Thank you for your time, continued support, and dedication to El Movimiento

I support all students regardless of immigration status or country of origin. As a member of the UO Dreamers Working Group, I support Dreamer students and promote their sense of belonging and safety as they pursue their higher education goals. For more information and resources please visit our Dreamers page (https://blogs.uoregon.edu/dreamers/) and the Immigration FAQs page (http://international.uoregon.edu/immigration_faq ). Remember, when interacting with faculty, staff, and offices around campus you are never required to reveal your status.
