Subject: grad-heads: Graduate Application Changes
Hello Everyone,
I'm writing with important updates about the graduate application.
You may remember that last year, we were required to add Criminal & Disciplinary History questions to the graduate admissions application. The President's Office has requested that these questions be removed effective immediately and so graduate (and undergraduate) applicants to the University of Oregon are no longer being asked for this information.
This summer, we are adding state mandated questions regarding gender identity and sexual orientation to the graduate application. The purpose of collecting this data is to assess and increase resources for the LGBTQIA+ community. We currently ask for gender, with the possible responses of Yes/No only. This question will be changed to, "What is your legal sex?" and the responses will remain as Yes/No. Following that question will be the attached questions and responses, including the preface paragraph. Please note that answering these questions is voluntary. To protect the privacy of applicants, individual identifying data will only be shared with limited staff in offices that are responsible for data collection for the institution. Aggregate data will be available only to administrative departments at the institution, and reported to the state when requested. More information can be found here: https://gradschool.uoregon.edu/gender-data-collection
Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions.
Best regards,
Cortney
