CPSY community,

Below (from the Around the O site) see information about a great monthly event, it is a great way to connect with people in this community, especially if you are relatively new to Eugene!!

Best,

Ellen

The next First Friday Communities of Color networking event will be hosted by the University of Oregon on Nov. 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the bonus room of the UO Recreation Center. Community members are encouraged to bring their families, including children. Food will be provided.

Sponsored by the Lane County Equity and Community Consortium, the goal of the family-friendly monthly events is to create a safe space that fosters friendships and networks for people of color, social justice allies and equity workers in the local area. It is also a place to celebrate successes and to welcome and introduce new people to the community.

Each month a different member of the consortium hosts the networking event. This month's event will also help the UO kick off the monthlong celebration of Native American Heritage Month.

"Our collective histories help shape Native American cultures and heritages," said Jason Younker, assistant vice president and advisor to the president on sovereignty and government to government relations. "First Fridays are a wonderful opportunity to share experiences and remembrances. Understanding these diverse backgrounds help us overcome the challenges in diversity education."

Equity and Community Consortium member agencies include the UO, city of Eugene, Springfield School District, Lane Community College, city of Springfield, Eugene Water and Electric Board, Lane Council of Governments, Lane County, Lane Transit District, Bethel School District, Lane Education Service District and Eugene School District. I support all students regardless of immigration status or country of origin. As a member of the UO Dreamers Working Group, I support Dreamer students and promote their sense of belonging and safety as they pursue their higher education goals. For more information and resources please visit our Dreamers page (https://blogs.uoregon.edu/dreamers/) and the Immigration FAQs page (http://international.uoregon.edu/immigration_faq ). Remember, when interacting with faculty, staff, and offices around campus you are never required to reveal your status.
