cpsylist: Portland VA externship

Dear CPSY students,

The Portland VA is seeking an extern from June 2017 to June 2018 who would be interested in working at a VA and doing neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation, and PTSD treatment including evidence-based treatments such as Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy. Drs. Marilyn Huckans (Director of Training for Psychology at the Portland VA) and Maya O'Neil (a UO CPSY Ph.D.) would be the supervisors, and are licensed psychologists in Oregon with research and clinical faculty appointments at the VA and OHSU. Ideally the extern would be in Portland 2 days a week, but given the challenges of such an arrangement they are willing to try to arrange that one day is conducted remotely from the Eugene VA site, that is, for telehealth work. Carolyn Peterson is currently there as an extern and is probably willing to share about her experience!

If you are interested in this opportunity, (1) talk with your advisor about feasibility, and consider the implications for a GE (that is, many GEs could not accommodate this in conjunction with your class schedules) and if you have your advisor's ok then (2) send an updated CV and cover letter to Dr. Maya O'Neil at Maya.Oneil at va.gov<mailto:Maya.Oneil at va.gov> by March 1st.
