Position Title: Postdoctoral Resident (4 positions)
University: University of Wisconsin- Madison
Department: University Health Services-Mental Health

Salary: $35,000 plus full benefits and $600 professional development monies

Position Description: UW-Madison’s University Health Services-Mental Health offers four postdoctoral residencies in psychology. These are supervised, 12-month positions from August 1st, 2017 to July 31st, 2018. Our postdoc program is unique in not only offering generalist training with traditional counseling center service delivery experiences (e.g., brief, intermittent individual and couples counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health triage), but also advanced training in an identified clinical specialization: group counseling, campus-based services, wellness and behavioral health, crisis stabilization services, assessment, clinical services, or supervision and training. Postdocs provide approximately 26 hours/week (65%) of service delivery, which includes 13 hours/week (33%) of individual counseling. Clinical specializations are 15% (6 hours/week) of the internship experience, and may also count toward the 65% service delivery expectation (depending on the specialization).

Additional learning experiences may include substance abuse, eating disorder, and general assessments; research; teaching; consultation and liaison development; interdisciplinary collaboration; supervision of doctoral practicum students; administration; leadership; and wellness/positive psychology. Participation on eating disorder, substance use, and interpersonal violence interdisciplinary workgroups is also available. Depending on past and current training experiences, postdocs may also participate in Group, Multicultural, and Supervision of Supervision Seminars.

Learning occurs in a supportive, collegial, multidisciplinary, multicultural environment that provides a balance of service delivery with supervision and autonomy. Postdocs receive weekly individual and group supervision by experienced licensed psychologists and other multidisciplinary senior staff, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, and other specialized staff. As a staff we are committed to diversity and to providing an environment that supports individual and cultural similarities and differences.

  * Strong interest in providing brief, intermittent, multiculturally-competent counseling to a diverse college student population.

Desired Qualifications: Our selection committee seeks applicants who meet the application requirements described above, and who ideally have both college and community mental health experiences. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong interest in and experience with college mental health, ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, and serving a diverse student population.
