The Weekly Vol. 7 #31
Dean’s Message
Dear COE Community,
Thank you for making Ducks Give 2026 such a huge success last week! We exceeded our goal of 180 gifts, ending the day with 195 gifts raising more than $132,000. Of that total, $63,000 was unlocked through eight challenge gifts. We finished #5 on the leaderboard for number of gifts and were the top academic unit in this category. This marks the third year in a row we earned this top spot!
This year we featured three funds on our giving page: the COE General Scholarship Fund, the Sapsik’ʷałá Teacher Education Program Fund, and the HEDCO Clinic Discretionary Fund. But donors who gave to any COE fund counted toward our total goal. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the funds raised will support our student scholarships and programming in the years ahead.
Thank you for your generosity, advocacy, and the many ways you contributed to this shared success! And a special shout out to our incredible COE Development Team, Esther Harclerode, Laura King, and Andrea Olson, for their hard work making the event such a success.
Best wishes,
Emily

Congrats to COE alum Mike Seager, MEd ’12 (Special Education), winner of Eugene School District 4J’s 2026 Golden Apple Award in the teacher/licensed specialist category. Mike is a special education teacher at Roosevelt Middle School. Core to his work with students is his Academic Success Rubric, a comprehensive list of skills needed for them to be successful in the classroom.
Faculty Shoutout: Associate Professor Nichole Kelly
Dr. Nichole Kelly's research team was well represented at the UO Undergraduate Research Symposium. The FHS students who were presenting said that Dr. Kelly came by to support them, as did several of the graduate students. One of them even explained the high variance in one subgroup’s confidence interval- impressive! The students said they love the supportive environment of Dr. Kelly's lab.
