Dean's Message
Dear COE Community,
Thank you for your thoughtful nominations for the college's transitioning leadership positions. I received an extensive list of strong nominations and am pleased to announce the following incoming leaders starting in 2026-2027:

In addition, I am pleased to announce Dr. John Seeley as the incoming Executive Director for the HEDCO Institute.
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to our outgoing leaders, whose service has been instrumental in supporting and advancing the mission of the college:

COE Preparing for Promotion Workshop 3: Scholarship
Friday May 1st, 12-1:20pm on Zoom
If you are Career (Clinical, Instructional, Research) or TTF, and promotion and/or tenure is on the horizon for you in the next 1-3 years, this workshop is for you! The final in a series of three workshops to be offered this year, this workshop will focus on what to expect when assembling the scholarship portion of your dossier. Participants will be provided with suggestions and strategies for addressing scholarship in their personal statement, accounting for scholarly activities on the CV, and suggestions for items to include in their dossier. COE Nominations for Faculty and Staff Awards Now Open
The College of Education recognizes outstanding faculty, officers of administration, and staff in the areas of teaching, service to students, administration, research or outreach, and diversity with our Faculty and Staff Awards. Please take a moment to reflect on the great work your colleagues do and submit a nomination to share their outstanding work with others. Nominations are accepted from students, faculty, officers of administration, and staff connected to the COE. UO Black Student Athlete Summit May 20-23, 2026
At the end of Winter quarter, COE student and Senior Associate Athletic Director, Da'Mon Merkerson, shared some information about the upcoming BSA Summit, that will be hosted by the University of Oregon this Spring. Da'Mon shared ways faculty in the COE may participate. As promised, we wanted to remind you of the dates for that event and share a link to the BSA Summit website<https://bsasummit.org/> for those who are interested in participating or registering to attend.
UO Self Defense Class
The UO Police Department offers free self-defense and pepper spray classes<https://police.uoregon.edu/self-defense> to all UO students, faculty, staff. Participants learn basic self-defense techniques, risk awareness, and proper pepper spray deployment technique. The next class is Friday May 8, 2026 at 4pm.

For Lilly Gaven, BS '23 Educational Foundations, MEd '24 Curriculum and Teaching, scholarship support was the foundation that allowed her to transform her education into a career that now touches the lives of hundreds of children.
Celebrating 60 Years of UO Softball
COSA Executive Director Krista Parent was recently recognized at a UO softball game celebrating 60 years of UO softball and 10 years at Jane Sanders Stadium. Congratulations to the incredible faculty, staff, and students who make our D.Ed. program a national leader!
