Dear COE Faculty and Staff,
The Office of the Provost has reviewed the [?docx icon] College of Education Peer Review of Teaching policy<https://uoregon.sharepoint.com/:w:/s/Unit-LevelPolicies-Approved/ES4XNKaE2ndJjZEO5CBalMIBdGXQhFMZrRSC6R2DvZwSbA?e=CQ4mVW> and it is now posted as final on the Office of the Provost Website<https://provost.uoregon.edu/college-education>.
The policy will also be accessible through the College of Education page<https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/assignment-of-professional-responsibilities-faculty-workload/> which is where any future supporting documents will also be posted.
This is a new policy for the College of Education with no prior versions on record. The final policy was referred to as "a thoughtful, exemplary policy" by the Office of the Provost review team.
There were minimal edits from the Office of the Provost review. The most significant edit indicates that:
* Pro Tem faculty are not required to have annual peer reviews. Peer reviews may be conducted for Pro Tem faculty when warranted at the unit's discretion. [Page 1, Preamble].
Additionally:
* A sentence describing a redundant process step was removed [Page 3, Section II C iv Post-observation communication AND Page 5, Section III, D, Role of Reviewee].
This policy will be effective immediately. Proposed changes from this point forward will go through the typical policy faculty governance change channels.
As with any new policy, we anticipate there will be transitional activities and new learning that occurs as we shift our processes to align with these current expectations. We look forward to working closely with you as a community to resolve implementation issues and to support a smooth transition to the expectations of this updated policy.
My gratitude to the Peer Review of Teaching Policy Committee for their careful and thoughtful development of this policy, and their patience with the lengthy process. My special thanks to Angie Whalen, PhD in her role as chair of the committee.
* Angie Whalen, SPECS, Chair
* Beth Harn, SPECS
* Ben Clarke, SPECS
* Joanna Goode, EDST
* Katie Fitch, EDST
* Leslie Leve, CPHS
* Lisa Mazzei, EDST
* Sylvia Thompson, SPECS
We appreciate the committee's recommendations to:
1. Review this policy again once the two promotion policies are developed; and to
2. Develop a set of implementation guidance documents for use with the policy.
My gratitude as well to the COE faculty community for your conscientious input and review.
Best,
Dianna
