Hello College of Education faculty and staff,
I wanted to notify you that the UO Libraries has acquired a subscription to a new database, Education Source. Access to this new resource is scheduled to begin January 1, 2026, though we may be able to get things up and running a bit sooner than that. If you would like a preview of this resource, you can use this Education Source trial link<https://research.ebsco.com/c/atezze?db=eue>.
To free up funding for this database, we are canceling our subscription to Education Abstracts as of December 31, 2025, along with several print journal/magazine subscriptions (many of which will have full-text access available in Education Source).
Education Source is a more comprehensive database than Education Abstracts and will provide complementary coverage to ERIC, which we will still have access to through the vendors EBSCO<https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/eric> and ProQuest (Education Research Index)<https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/EdResIn>. I am continuing to track how cuts to the Institute of Education Sciences are impacting coverage in ERIC. So far, cuts to ERIC have not been as severe as initially feared, but Education Source will provide our campus with an additional stable resource in case there are any future cuts to ERIC.
Lastly, for those of you who conduct evidence synthesis research, a recent study by Fitzgerald, Weaver, and Droog<https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/research-synthesis-methods/article/selecting-a-specialized-education-database-for-literature-reviews-and-evidence-synthesis-projects/9ACA973C0AC909C2D913861FE3851D1E> found that Education Source has the widest coverage of available Education databases and recommends using both Education Source and ERIC to ensure a more comprehensive literature search. This will be another benefit of adding Education Source to our database subscriptions.
I will update all my research guides to include Education Source once it becomes available. The database will also be added to our Database A-Z list<https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/az/databases>. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I hope the remainder of the term goes well for you all.
Best,
Katherine
