Colloquium title: Disrupting Discipline: Discipline Trends & Reforms at a Critical Juncture

Description: Following a decade of declining suspension rates, schools now face mounting resistance to equity-focused reforms, including challenges to restorative practices and alternative disciplinary approaches. Within this complex sociopolitical landscape, I present findings from two complementary research projects in Michigan that examine recent trends in school discipline and district responses to reform efforts. Drawing on statewide administrative data and employing an interrupted time series (ITS) design, the first project examines how disciplinary patterns have evolved during and since the COVID-19 pandemic, with particular attention to disparities across race and disability status. The second project delves into a research-practice partnership with five Michigan school districts, using mixed-methods research to investigate the implementation of restorative practices under a statewide mandate.

This presentation is part of an on-campus interview for the Assistant Professor of Education Policy and Equity<https://careers.uoregon.edu/en-us/job/534178/assistant-professor-of-education-policy-and-equity> position in the department of Education Studies.
