Dear COE Community,

In the past few weeks, I have visited each of our academic departments and have had a chance to hear directly from faculty and staff in our college about the work they're engaging in and the strategic directions we're headed together. I know there continues to be many questions about the presidential election and what that may mean for federal policies, funding, and priorities. The heightened sense of uncertainty can fuel anxiety in ourselves and in our students. I continue to be grateful for our community for devoting emotional and intellectual spaces for respectful and meaningful discourse to occur. I'm heartened by reports of faculty who are holding extra office hours, listening sessions, and creating lesson plans that allow for a deeper dive into relevant topics that intersect with world events. I'm grateful for our staff who support students (and faculty) and am grateful for our shared work in promoting equitable education outcomes on this campus and in our community. Many of you are sharing resources and information with students and colleagues who may be especially affected by national and world events.

This is our backdrop in the College of Education. Although the seasons may change and the day-to-day issues may vary, our work is laser focused on improving systems (or dismantling them) and promoting equity and justice. I am truly moved by the goodness in our College of Education community and appreciate the big and small ways each of you makes a positive difference.

We are coming up on a very busy remainder of the term, including six on-campus visits for two tenure track faculty searches. Although I know you're busy, I would love for you to participate in these visits in any capacity you're able. Thanks for your commitment to recruiting new faculty and for the many important contributions each of you makes to our college.

Warmly,
Laura Lee
