This presentation is part of an on-campus interview for an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Education Studies.
About AJ Alvero
AJ Alvero is an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida Department of Sociology, Criminology & Law researching language, race/ethnicity, culture, inequality and stratification, and evaluation through computational perspectives. His past work analyzing a large corpus of college admissions essays has been published in venues like Science Advances, the Journal of Computational Social Science, the Oxford Handbook of the Sociology of Machine Learning, and other venues. His future work examines new AI technologies, other systems of evaluation, and Latinx identity. AJ earned his PhD from the Stanford University Graduate School of Education in 2022 where he was a Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellow and a Diversifying Academia and Recruiting Excellence (DARE) Fellow. Prior to entering academia, AJ was a high school English teacher in Miami, FL.
