Faculty Spotlight | Dr. Ilana Umansky

Dr. Ilana Umansky<https://education.uoregon.edu/directory/faculty/all/ilanau> specializes in Quantitative Research Methods in Education. Her research<https://edpolicyinca.org/sites/default/files/2022-10/pb_umansky-nov22.pdf> centers on the effects of education policies on multilingual and immigrant-origin students, addressing systemic inequities. As an Associate Professor, she leads transformative initiatives, including directing the master's program in Education Policy and Leadership. Engaging with national and state policymakers, Dr. Umansky shapes equitable education systems beyond academia. Awarded by esteemed institutions, her widely covered research significantly influences educational practices and policies. Alumni News | South Umpqua Selects Erika Bare as New Superintendent



Erika Bare will assume leadership of the South Umpqua School District starting 7/1. A University of Oregon graduate with over 20 years of educational experience, Bare began as a special education teacher and transitioned to administrative roles. Board chair Jeff Johnson commended Bare's leadership, expressing enthusiasm for her alignment with the district and community. Economics of Education Review | Best Paper Award

Assistant professor, David Liebowitz<https://education.uoregon.edu/directory/faculty/all/daviddl> received the Best Paper Award<https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/economics-of-education-review/about/news> from the Economics of Education Review. Liebowitz's paper, "New Schools and New Classmates: The Disruption and Peer Group Effects of School Reassignment<https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0272775722000899>," found that school assignment policies preventing overconcentration of lower-achieving or lower-income students can improve learning opportunities for underserved children.
