Dear COE Community,
Welcome to Week 10! Many of our students and faculty are gearing up for final projects, papers, and exams. It’s been a busy term, but the end is in sight. As I shared in yesterday’s COE faculty and staff meeting, we have accomplished much this term. I set out the fall term identifying three priorities for the year (and beyond). These priorities are:
* Climate, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Work with faculty, staff, and students to generate an authentic sense of belonging for every member of the College of Education
* Research and Academic Excellence: Reinvigorate and articulate the role of research, innovation, and academic excellence in the College of Education
* Community Partnerships: Invest and strengthen our community partnerships and generate reciprocal relationships and mutually beneficial partnerships.
I would like to highlight some of our work in the above three areas. This list is not exhaustive, but provides a few examples our collective work to address COE priorities. I’ll continue to ask you, our COE faculty and staff, to contribute to these efforts.
* Climate, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
* Clarity of expectations and communications & policy revisions
* Intentional focus on belonging and community,
* Focus on diversity and equity in day-to-day actions (e.g., governance, hiring, promotion support, admissions, curriculum, student support)
* Research and Academic Excellence:
* Deep dive into understanding academic programs to assist with strategic priority settings
* COE cost-share for research GEs; workload expectations for grant-active faculty
* Celebrating and sharing academic and research stories – faculty, student, community impact
* Community Partnerships:
* Fostering stronger relationships with local schools and districts
* COE consortium, COSA, K-12 state wide, Indigenous communities
* Community agencies statewide, collaboration with Ballmer Institute
Thank you for your support and commitment to positive change and enhanced impact of our work.
Warmly,
Laura Lee

Academic “New Dean Briefings” Concluded
Over the past quarter, each of the college’s 16 academic programs prepared and presented a series of comprehensive briefings designed to inform and assist in onboarding a new dean. These recent "New Dean Briefings" provided our new dean with nuanced operational insights from each academic program and painted a cohesive framework of the college's academic identity. A special thank you goes out to the dedicated program directors<https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/college-of-education-program-directors-and-coordinators/> and Academic Program Coordinators<https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/academic-program-coordinators/> from SPECS, EDST, CPHS, and EDLD for the time and dedication spent in conceptualizing these sessions and showcasing this important work. The COE leadership team sincerely appreciated the opportunity to learn from every presentation. Looking ahead to Winter, our focus will shift to exploring the college's research identity, promising further insights, and successes to be shared in upcoming meetings.
