Dear COE community,
Happy mid-term/Week 5! I hope you are able to take a moment to acknowledge how far we've come this year and all we've accomplished together. The past few weeks have been especially busy for the COE Dean's Office as we're now able to plan for "longer term" priorities, projects, and initiatives. Earlier this week we learned the good news that our College of Education has been allotted three new tenure track faculty lines through the Institutional Hiring Plan (IHP)<https://provost.uoregon.edu/institutional-hiring-plan>. Soon we will begin the work of forming committees, working with our HR partners, and fully engaging in active recruitment of colleagues whose disciplinary expertise and backgrounds meet the needs of the COE. Searching for new faculty colleagues is a critical part of our growth plans and diversity goals for our community and requires thoughtful and coordinated efforts. I am thrilled that we have a chance to hire new faculty as well as continue searches that were not filled this year.
As we begin our longer-term planning, I'm pleased to share that all three department heads have agreed to continue their service in these roles. Thanks to Ben Clarke, Joanna Good, and Leslie Leve for their leadership to the COE! This year has been a year of change, and I look forward to continuity of leadership as well as ongoing and continuous improvement in our work. A goal of mine is to foster a climate that is supportive of growth and ongoing improvement. With a growth mindset we don't expect perfection nor do we shy away from supportive and caring feedback. This growth mindset represents a cultural shift in our college and represents an important step for inclusion, support, and care toward all members of our community. An openness to feedback and professional growth (without the feeling of "high stakes" evaluations) is critical to our efforts.
Thank you all for your contributions to our college, your commitment to our students, and your willingness to partner with me and each other as we pursue our goals - in the classroom, with our research, and with our community partnerships.
Warmly,
Laura Lee
