Dear COE Community,
I invite you to join me in expressing my gratitude to Dr. Chris Murray for his 4 years of service as Associate Dean for Faculty Development in our college (one more year than he signed up for!). Dr. Murray led our college through some of the largest cohorts of faculty promotion the COE has seen. I appreciated Dr. Murray's leadership and support of this complex and important process and for the role he played in continuing our college's legacy of faculty excellence. I express my gratitude to Chris as he once again resumes his role among his colleagues and returns his attention to research and instruction within the CPHS department and directing the Center on Human Development.
As Chris Murray's role comes to a close at the end of the Spring quarter, we will need to once again engage in the full process of nominating and appointing a new Associate Dean for Faculty Development, who will assume the role in summer 2023. The Associate Dean for Faculty Development coordinates all faculty promotion and tenure processes and offers professional development activities that foster faculty success.
At this time, I ask that COE faculty and staff nominate or self-nominate eligible faculty members for consideration. Please email your nominations to Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann (dcarriza at uoregon.edu<mailto:dcarriza at uoregon.edu>) by Monday May 8th. Eligible faculty for the Associate Dean for Faculty Development are tenured faculty with preference given to full professors.
The Associate Dean for Faculty Development has .20 FTE during the academic year and summer FTE of .25. The appointment also includes a monthly stipend of $500. Please note that faculty are required to teach a minimum of one course per year per our workload policy. Ideally we would appoint an associate dean to serve a 3-year term.
There are now numerous faculty among our ranks who have held leadership roles in the Dean's Office and who may be willing to answer your questions as you consider self-nominating or nominating someone for this role. I am also always available for any questions you may have as you consider the expectations of serving as an Associate Dean. I look forward to your nominations and to another successful appointment this role for our college. With gratitude.
warmly,
Laura Lee
