Dear COE community,

This morning I joined over 100 participants from across campus, including many of our COE faculty and staff (Beth Harn, Ellen McWhirter, Ben Clarke, Dianna Carrizales-Engelmann, Sylvia Thompson, Amy Green, & Lydia Griffin), at an Inclusive Faculty Recruitment and Retention Summit. The goals of the summit were to hear from units across campus on efforts currently underway to improve our faculty recruitment and retention, and discuss key topics including active recruitment, mentorship, faculty research success, and plans for an annual roundtable on inclusive recruitment and retention. The summit was sponsored by the Office of the Provost and had broad input and engagement from faculty, leadership, and staff from across campus. As a College of Education deeply committed to hiring and retaining faculty from diverse backgrounds, I am encouraged by the campus work done in this space and am committed to deploying practices and strategies that will benefit our community and our students now and in the future. More to come on this topic at the June 9th faculty/staff meeting as well as a summary of our university climate sessions. Thank you for partnering with me in this critical work.

I hope you read through to the end and note the updates and reminders below. Please also take a moment to congratulate our faculty and staff who made the accolade list.

Happy spring, everyone! I hope you get a minute to enjoy the sunshine today.

Warmly,
Laura Lee
