Dear Faculty and Staff,

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Professor Emeritus David Moursund<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Moursund> passed away on September 1st. I encourage you to read about his many accomplishments, including being a founder of the field of instructional technology and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). His accomplishments were many, varied, and long standing.

I feel honored to have had the opportunity to know Dave. I always marveled at his agile and logical mind and his dedication to his work. We had a great time challenging each other’s ideas and assumptions, and I always felt that my thinking was clarified by each discussion. I will miss him.

More information will be shared on his memorial and how to give in his honor. I offer my condolences to all of you who knew Dave.

  *   DEI Professional Development Model Vote: The college’s DEI committee has drafted a short list of ways that the COE may be able to make DEI-focused professional development opportunities more readily accessible to COE faculty and staff within our current resources.   *   The Center for Prevention of Abuse and Neglect (CPAN) created the attached report which summarizes the key findings of the Oregon Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force (SATF) 20-Year Retrospective Project and reflects Oregon’s national leadership on sexual assault policy and prevention advocacy. Thanks to Jeff Todahl and colleagues for creating this informative work.

  *   Lillian Durán and Lauren Cycyk received official notification that they were awarded their master’s training grant, Interdisciplinary Diversity Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) through the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). The purpose of IDEA is to train 16 Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) students at the University of Oregon to increase equity in the delivery of services to children of Color and those who speak languages or language varieties other than or in addition to standard American English from birth through age 5 with disabilities. The overall aim is to increase the diversity of providers delivering EI/ECSE services who are highly qualified to implement evidence-based practices and improve the outcomes of diverse populations. Congratulations Lillian and Lauren.
