Dear Faculty and Staff,
I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at our luncheon. Our lunch reservations are approaching pre-pandemic levels, which is impressive. Also, our building occupancy is also increasing daily. I’ll look forward to greeting each of you as I continue walking around the COE complex.
Thanks to Juls and Emily Barker each issue of the COE Weekly and Monthly is archived on my blog at https://blogs.uoregon.edu/randykamphaus/, with the password COERandyWeekly. In addition, please continue to send Amanda Boehringer (amanda2 at uoregon.edu<mailto:amanda2 at uoregon.edu>) any noteworthy events and accolades to share in upcoming issues.
Finally, I wish to congratulate our COE Advising group on the launch of their new podcast. A student-facing description of the podcast accompanies the logo provided in the Updates and Upcoming section of this issue.
Warm regards
Randy

Accolades:
* Brigid Flannery, Mimi Kato, Angus Kittelman, Kent McIntosh, and Danielle Triplett received an honorable mention for School Psychology’s 2020 Article of the Year Competition. This work represents an important contribution to our understanding of student engagement and success. Nice work, ECS researchers!
Flannery, K. B., Kato, M. M., Kittelman, A., McIntosh, K., & Triplett, D. (2020). A tier 1 intervention to increase ninth grade engagement and success: Results from a randomized controlled trial. School Psychology, 35(1), 88-98. https://doi.org/10.1037/spq0000347
* Our communications team, Juls Davis, Emily Barker, and Madeline Ryan, are seeing noteworthy increases in our digital/social media engagement. In August 2019, for example, our twitter visits were a mere 129, in August 2020 they were 276, and in August 2021 we had 3960 visits. Ellen McWhirter, Jennifer Ruef, and Geovanna Rodriguez’s recent AroundtheO Article<https://around.uoregon.edu/content/back-school-easing-anxiety-kids-returning-classrooms> on Back to School: Easing anxiety for kids returning to classrooms received over 1000 views, where in comparison other articles throughout campus had at most 400 views. This is extraordinary work by our communications team and well-deserved recognition of the quality and importance of our faculty expertise.
* James Muruthi was recently published in the International Journal of Aging and Human Development. His article, Sociodemographic, Health, and Caregiving Patterns of Aging Caregivers in Oregon: Gender Comparisons and the Role of Leisure Activities, <https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00914150211040458> significantly advances our understanding of demographic group differences in caregiving. Well done.
