Dear Faculty and Staff,
Volume 8 is the accolades issue. It is such a pleasure to see our colleagues acknowledged for the university- and field-leading work they do. The fact that our faculty received 5 of the 22 COVID-19 Research Innovation Awards (see first accolade) is remarkable.
With gratitude and admiration,
Randy
Updates and Upcoming:
* The college received its GE allocation of 65 positions from the university last week. These positions will be allocated in the next couple of weeks to the four academic units to help fund their PhD students. By the way, academic department heads and deans have been working on strategies for allocating GEs to units since early October. The work has been arduous, because this same allocation fell at least 20 GEs short of those needed for the current academic year. More to come.
Accolades:
* Five COE Faculty - Beth Stormshak, CPHS; Kathleen Scalise, EMPL; Jerry Rosiek, EDST; Leslie Leve, CPHS; Mari Cary, CTL - were recipients of the COVID-19 Research Innovation Awards. This honor is granted in recognition of their timely efforts to deploy research expertise towards understanding COVID-19 and addressing pandemic-related issues for the benefit of our community. The COVID-19 Research Innovation Award was created in Spring 2020 to acknowledge the timely research efforts of our faculty to address the pandemic and is funded from the Fund for Faculty Excellence (FFE). Faculty members were nominated by the university community. Please join me in congratulating and recognizing our colleague’s outstanding contributions.
* Kudos and gratitude to Julie Wren, COE’s Assistant Dean for Assessment and Accreditation. She has been working with our educator preparation faculty for years to write, gather and analyze data, prepare academic program assessments, seek feedback, edit, and finalize our 200+ page Quality Assurance Report for the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). But there is no time to rest. Julie and educator preparation colleagues are busy preparing for the AAQEP site visit in May, 2021.
* University of Oregon has been selected by the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) as one of the recipients of the Student Diversity Initiative Award! They were impressed by the proposal as it provided a clear focus on student multicultural and diversity issues. Congratulations to CPSY students and the CPSY student leadership team for their work and this recognition.
* A shout out to Kylie Post, our Program Coordinator for International Student Recruitment and Retention, for pursuing new initiatives for international student recruitment, and serving existing international students by hosting an international student, socially distanced, outdoor event. Thanks to Kylie, we are also now posting COE videos – including our building tour - to international websites visited by prospective students. Next week, we will be hosting a live, albeit virtual, information session for prospective students in China.
* Kudos to Meghan Mortensen in COE Communications for her article on Sapsik'ʷałá alumna, Nicole Butler-Hooten<https://around.uoregon.edu/content/college-education-alumna-named-state-teacher-year?utm_sournce=immersive&utm_medium=cta-button&utm_campaign=nahm2020>, which was recently featured in the Around the O. This article and the Sapsik'ʷałá program are currently highlighted on the UO Homepage story on Native American History Month<https://around.uoregon.edu/native-american-heritage-month-2020?utm_source=homepage&utm_medium=CTAbutton&utm_campaign=spotlight&utm_content=CTAbutton>. In addition, our four Sapsik'ʷałá alumni profiles on Facebook have now reached over 13,000 people (average post reach is around 500).
* The Sapsik'ʷałá DuckFunder<http://duckfunder.uoregon.edu/sapsikwala2020> has raised $13,830 from 84 donors to date, on our way to the goal of 100 donors in honor of 100 alumni. More than half of the total donation amount is from COE faculty and staff. Thank you!!
* The Annual Philanthropy team in Central Advancement sent a fall mailer to COE alumni and donors which raised $5,325 for the college. An end of the year mailer featuring a letter from School Psychology graduate student and scholarship recipient, George Perez, is currently in the mail.
