College of Education: Academic Continuity Team Summary Memo - 3.11.2020
The goal is to continue academic operations as much as possible while maintaining academic integrity, transparency, and fairness for students. - Academic Council.
A brief summary of status:
* The University has just notified faculty to offer no in-person finals and to offer spring courses remotely for the first three weeks of spring quarter https://around.uoregon.edu/content/updated-information-covid-19-changes-operations?utm_source=homepage&utm_campaign=news
What Should Instructors of Record Do Now:
* Work with their Department Heads and Program Directors to finalize all needs related to offering courses remotely to be ready on the first day of classes.
* Communicate with students to ensure they are fully prepared for the expectations of the final in its new format
* Communicate with students to ensure that they are fully prepared for the new format that will be in place on March 30th, 2020.
* Stay healthy
What does offering courses remotely look like:
* Instructional content can be streamed via Zoom and graded via Canvas.
* Instructional content can be streamed via Canvas conference tools and graded via Canvas.
* Instructional materials can be shared by Canvas in the form of assignments, and graded in Canvas.
All faculty are advised to load enough academic work onto canvas in advance so that students can proceed for 1 - 2 weeks in the event of a temporary disruption to instruction.
College and University Resources for remote delivery:
* Zoom trainings are available in the College. Look for the next training date or send a request to schedule a training session.
o HEDCO 230 T: March 13th: 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM
o HEDCO 230 T: March 19th: 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
* Online resources for Zoom including training modules are posted on the Governance site under curriculum resources: https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/display/governance/Curriculum+Resources
* Canvas trainings are available regularly across campus. Look for the next training dates here: https://provost.uoregon.edu/canvas-trainings-academic-continuity-preparations
Information about additional licenses will be shared by the end of day tomorrow.
What Should Programs Do Now:
Program directors in concert with Department Heads should be able to provide the following information to the best of their ability by the end of the week:
* Confirmation from all Spring course instructors, that they have a plan for offering their courses remotely.
* An identified a substitute instructor for all Spring courses.
* An identified list of courses that will require further discussion if the academic disruption persists longer than the three-week timeframe, particularly those that do not translate well to online platforms (e.g. student teaching, field requirements, clinical activities, practicum credit). Many are already in these discussions currently.
* A plan for how students will be expected to proceed with the course or make up course content if they are ill, quarantined, or navigating extenuating circumstances for extended periods of the quarter?
