Dear COE Community,
Please see below for some upcoming events of potential interest that will be hosted by the University of Oregon's new Center for Science Communication Research (SCR).


  *   Next Friday afternoon, SCR will hold their first annual Science Communication Research Forum. The research forum will highlight interdisciplinary UO science communication research while providing a venue to foster future research collaborations across campus. It is co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, and the University of Oregon Presidential Initiative in Data Science.

  *   SCR will host internationally renowned science communication scholar Dr. Kathleen Hall Jamieson from the Annenberg Public Policy Center March 10th and 11th, 2020.

o   Talk #1. Dr. Hall Jamieson will discuss "Russian hackers, trolls and #DemocracyRIP" about her award-winning book, Cyberwar: How Russian Hackers and Trolls Helped Elect a President: What We Don't, Can't, and Do. This talk was made possible by the Richard W. and Laurie Johnston Lecture Fund and is co-sponsored by the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics.

o   Talk #2. Dr. Hall Jamieson will talk about "Communicating the trustworthiness of science." In this presentation, she will examine factors that influence public perceptions of the trustworthiness of science, present examples of various media narratives, and discuss ways to decrease the polarization of scientific findings. This Johnston Lecture is co-sponsored by the Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, and the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics
