Dear Faculty and Staff,
Annual graduate student tuition setting is one of the activities we need to close out before the end of the term. Briefly, I am making a recommendation to the university for a 2.2% across the board increase for the upcoming academic year. The process and context for this decision is contained in my message to our Dean’s Student Advisory Board (attached).
As always, take care,
Randy
Updates and Upcoming:
* Rhonda Nese provides us with a must-read for this issue. Rhonda is a member of the Oregon Educator Equity Advisory Group, which has just released its 2020 Educator Equity Report (attached). Thanks, Rhonda, for representing us on this important body and for your contributions to this work.
* Dedoose Software: We recently signed an MOU with The UO Libraries to purchase a limited time subscription for Dedoose software (www.dedoose.com<http://www.dedoose.com>) and the provision of support services such as workshops for the community of users. The purpose of this purchase is to support faculty and students in mixed methods research, especially qualitative research, by providing access to Dedoose and support for its use to COE faculty and students and other researchers across the UO community. A total of 50 user licenses will be purchased. The subscription will be for 18 months and will start January 1, 2021 and end June 30, 2022. This allows for a long use period so that user needs, user demand, and software performance can be adequately evaluated. Stay tuned for more information on introductory Dedoose workshops.

An engaged class community has a measurable impact on student learning. For many students and instructors, creating genuine community in a remote context has been a challenge, both because we are physically distanced, and because many of us have extra demands on our time. How can we design for community even before day one of the term, while being strategic with our time as instructors? In this 30-minute session we will share three questions to consider and three engagement-building strategies for addressing those questions that you can deploy at the beginning of winter term.
