Dear All,

I am very pleased to report that there was overwhelming interest in creating this committee from faculty and staff throughout the college. Sixteen individuals either self-nominated or were nominated to be a part of the committee. I have been in touch with those individuals and will keep all apprised of the final committee in the coming weeks.

Sincerest thanks to those who nominated and/or expressed enthusiastic support for the development of this group!

Best,
Dianna

Subject: coe-staff: COE Equity and Inclusion Committee

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As most of you know, I am now leading our college's work in equity and inclusion. Given the numerous activities dedicated to equity and inclusion that are in constant motion in our college -- in departments, units, programs, and in individuals who are engaged in incredible acts of service, I would like to benefit from this crowdsource of excellence by inviting a small group of interested individuals to join me in the formation of a college-wide Equity and Inclusion Committee to support this work in our college. On the heels of Dr. Campt's visit to the college earlier this month, I have already heard from a small group of interested individuals, but would like to ensure that the opportunity is open to others.

In addition to the array of resources in both talent and content in the college and at the university level, we have two plans that reflect the priorities of the college and that provide concrete goals that will guide this work: The College's Diversity Action Plan and the College's Educator Equity Plan https://coedocs.uoregon.edu/display/governance/Student+and+Staff+Diversity+Resources

Using these resources, I currently envision that the committee would be responsible for providing support to some of the more critical activities in the college by driving recommendations in specific areas such as:

*         Recruitment/Hiring

*         Retention

*         Climate

*         Reporting

The first acts of the committee will be to clarify the parameters of the committee's charge and identify any action items that we might have the current capacity to influence. We will also determine the most effective avenue(s) for ensuring student voice in this work.

I know how busy we are as individuals and collectively, so I invite nominations from individuals willing to sit on a standing committee (that would meet on a semi-regular basis starting as early as this quarter) as well as from individuals who are interested in supporting this work at some point in time but who already know they would not be able to attend a regular meeting. Please let me know your interest by completing the following brief survey https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3wyqUlDTZW4TnXn by Friday May 3rd, 2019.

If you have additional specific questions, please feel free to reach out to me individually.

Best,

Dianna
