Dear Colleagues and Friends:
I encourage you to attend a 1.5 hour presentation by Mary Gordon, Creator and Founder of Roots of Empathy - a unique elementary school curriculum that places a volunteer family and baby at the center of instruction. Roots of Empathy, an evidence-based 27-unit program delivered in 13 countries and 7 languages to now over 1 million children, has been selected as a strategy in all 7 Lane County regions by community members as a part of the 90by30 Initiative. Roots was piloted in nineteen 1st and 2nd grade classrooms this past school year - and as one part of the Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect's work - is expanding to 30 classrooms this coming year. Our goal is to be in every 1st or 2nd grade classroom in Lane County in 7 years. This depends on community volunteers.
Please consider attending Mary Gordon's brief presentation on Thursday, 8/29, 10:30-12:00 at Prairie Mountain School. It is a great opportunity to get a good sense of this effort and its growing influence in Lane County communities.
Additionally, we are recruiting for families/babies (see attached recruitment flyer).
A couple of brief links to give you a sense of the work (and please see attached flyers):
