Lecture - The Transfeminist Manifesto Revisited: 20 Years Later
Tuesday, March 13, 4-5:20pm
McKenzie 229
This event is a public talk with social justice activist and writer Emi Koyama. Emi Koyama is a sought-after speaker whose work focuses on feminism, sexual and domestic violence, sex work, queer and trans liberation, intersex, and disability issues. The purpose of Koyama's talk is to discuss transfeminism in the context of third wave feminism and social activism. Transfeminism is a branch of feminism that grounds the lived experiences of trans* and genderqueer people. In Koyama's influential text, "Transfeminist Manifesto," transfeminism is defined as "primarily a movement by and for trans women who view their liberation to be intrinsically linked to the liberation of all women and beyond." In this talk, Koyama will detail how transfeminism has shifted since the publication of this critical text.
