coe-staff: Deaths at Marjory Stoneman Douglas School in Broward County, Florida

Dear COE Students, Staff, and Faculty,

My heart is broken.  I suspect that some of you are having the same or similar feeling of upset.  At the same, I am inspired by the bravery that was displayed by personnel in that school.  They acted smartly, compassionately, and effectively to serve our most vulnerable.

We will continue to prepare teachers, speech pathologists, school psychologists and other education personnel who will perform admirably under the worst of circumstances.  We must, however, do more.  We must exercise our rights as citizens to work for change.  This endless cycle of injury and death must stop.  I know that we will all do our part.

Today, we can take a small action to show our support for the families experiencing the devastating loss of child, and our solidarity in the interest of change.

I invite you to join me in the HEDCO lobby today at 4:30 for a moment of silence and reflection.
