Dear Students and Staff:
Please note the new deadlines and policy changes:
New Academic Deadlines
Class waitlists close for the current term: Wednesday of week 1 at 9:00 a.m.
September 26, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.
Last day to drop a class without a “W” appearing on a transcript: Saturday of week 1 at 11:59 p.m.
September 29, 2018 at 11:59 p.m.
Last day to add a class (except by petition): Sunday after week 1 at 11:59 p.m.
September 30, 2018 at 11:59 p.m.
The intent of these changes was to:
* Encourage students to create a full schedule and settle into their schedule earlier
* Reduce the percentage of a course that policy allows a student to miss
* Provide departments more control to adjust access for available seats during week 1.
Mandatory Attendance Policy Changes
The University of Oregon has enacted a new “Mandatory First Class Attendance<https://registrar.uoregon.edu/current-students/registering-for-classes#mandatory-attendance-requirements>” policy. Mandatory attendance will be strictly enforced for all courses marked with the “A” footnote in the class schedule<http://classes.uoregon.edu/>. This policy only governs the first day of class to manage enrollment. With or without the “A”, an instructor can choose to have an attendance policy in their syllabus that governs the entire term and affects student grades.
For classes with the Mandatory First Class Attendance designation:
* Attendance will be taken on the first day of class. Enrolled students who do not attend will be dropped. Departments will report the students who do not attend the first official meeting to the Registrar’s Office by 5 p.m. on the second day that the class meets, and the Registrar’s Office will drop the students from the course. The university refund schedule applies.
* After the first class meeting, students may add a course only if they have received approval from the instructor.
* Students may request a waiver of the first class meeting policy from their instructor PRIOR to the first class meeting for exceptional circumstances; however, it is up to the instructor whether they decide to accept or deny the waiver.
* Students with a late add or waiver will be expected to make up any missed work.
