Dear College of Education Community,
Dean Kamphaus formed the Ad Hoc Committee last winter to serve in an advisory capacaity. The Ad Hoc committee is an 18-member committee comprised of faculty (TTF & NTTF), staff (OA & classified), a community member, and a student. Specifically, Dean Kamphaus asked the committee to make recommendations on what academic structures will best help the College of Education achieve the five goals listed below.
1. Increase collaboration and innovation at all levels of our organization and in all activities, academic and operational;
2. Expand access to diverse faculty for our students across disciplinary and departmental boundaries;
3. Lessen administrative burdens on our faculty by critically examining the structures, such as our bylaws, that drive a high level of service;
4. Create shared services to allow us to make best and most responsible use of our constrained resources, and
5. Increase enrollment, particularly at the masters level.
Implicit in these goals is that we are fiscally responsible and do not introduce added expenses to our budget. The committee has been meeting regularly since last spring and has spent significant time discussing different organizational structures in the COE. We circulated a draft of 6 different organizational models last June, again in September, and I am attaching it again here. We invite you to provide input by completing a brief Qualtrics survey by November 2, 2018.

Please be aware that the committee does not claim that any of the models described in the Qualtrics survey cut costs (in most/all cases, we anticipate that there will not be significant cost savings). Please be aware of the five goals listed above when you complete the Qualtrics survey.
We will be holding a town hall meeting where we invite you to come with your thoughts, questions, and ideas to discuss with the Dean and member of the Ad Hoc Committee. The meeting is scheduled for Friday 10/26 from 1-2:30 pm in 220 Hedco.
Thank you for your time,
COE Ad Hoc Committee on College Structure
