Dear COE Community:
I wanted to provide some clarification about input from constituents relative to Dean Kamphaus’s fifth-year review.
Without question, input from the COE community is a crucial part of a comprehensive and effective review. An important tool to receive such feedback is an online survey instrument that will be emailed to you (and posted online) after winter term begins. There may be a couple of different surveys if we determine that different audiences should receive slightly different questions.
These surveys will be developed by the committee appointed by the provost. Our committee had its first meeting earlier this week and we began very initial conversations about a survey. I understand there may be a version of a survey now circulating that is being billed as “the survey” or the committee’s final work. That is inaccurate. The committee includes thoughtful individuals from across the College who will provide expertise and input into the survey tool(s), a process which has just begun using past surveys as a starting place. As chair of the committee, I ask that you allow this group to conduct its work in an organized fashion and avoid parallel processes or a flow of information that is outside of the committee’s work. This will both ensure an organized approach to our work, but it will also ensure that suggestions and feedback are not inadvertently lost through the cracks or misinterpreted through translation or third parties.
Faculty, staff and students are of course welcome to provide ideas about topics or areas that ought to be included in the survey(s) and should do so by emailing the committee at feedback at uoregon.edu<mailto:feedback at uoregon.edu>. I will make sure such input is provided to the committee for its consideration as we work toward a final draft.
We are sorry for any confusion on the timing or steps of the process in launching the survey. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email the address above. I look forward to working with you and hearing your feedback on this important endeavor.
Sincerely,
Juan-Carlos Molleda
Dean, School of Journalism and Communication
