coe-staff: Loss of Jerry and Linda Tindal's son, Karsten Tindal

Dear COE Faculty and Staff,

I am saddened to share this news with you.  Several of us spoke with Jerry yesterday as he and his family were facing the full force of the reality of their loss.  As many of you probably know by now, Karsten died in the tragic traffic accident on Dillard Road that was reported widely in the news yesterday.

There has been an outpouring of expressions of our collective sadness, sympathy, and willingness to help the Tindal family.  Please be aware that Jerry may find it difficult to respond to all of the well-wishes received.  We will keep you informed about any public events honoring Karsten’s life.

I thought that you might also appreciate the words written by Ellen Schmidt-Devlin, Director of the Sports Management Program in which Karsten was currently enrolled.  In her words, “Karsten approached every day with excitement, joy and genuine love. Prior to coming to the UO SPM program, Karsten coached football at South Eugene for five years. Football was one of his passions and his passions were many including golf, photography, spicy food, his dog Murphy, and above all his longtime girlfriend, Madison, and his family.”

With deep sadness, I wish Jerry and Linda, their family, and everyone in our COE community healing.
