Dear TTF Colleagues,

Thank you for attending the meeting, which is one of the last steps in our process of finalizing our tenure-related faculty workload policy. Our meeting confirmed Professor Stevens' prior description of our faculty as one of the "most engaged" of any COE. I also appreciate the dedication of time and skill of Scott Coltrane and Brad Shelton to this work, and their attendance at the meeting.

I have been considering your feedback on the teaching workload provisions all weekend and will likely make one or two minor changes before I submit my recommendation to Provost Coltrane, hopefully, later today.

? I will now turn my attention to thinking about teaching workload implementation guidance as I described on Friday. I'll give you a summer respite from this work while I continue reviewing similar guidance at peer and aspirant institutions. In the fall we can decide which faculty committee is best suited to begin work on what I hope will be a few paragraphs of implementation principles. As of Friday, the following topics will be considered as part of the teaching workload implementation plan; number of new course preparations, undergraduate and graduate minimum class sizes, faculty expertise and research programs, distribution of teaching across the academic year, and guidelines for graduate employee assignments and usage. Please inform me of any other considerations that come to mind.

I will will also charge this faculty committee with finalizing our Course Release and Course Buyout Plans. We will be able to implement, at least in part, some of these guidelines, policies, and procedures in the upcoming academic year with full implementation taking place in the 2018/19 academic year.

I will devote my efforts during this remaining week of the term to finishing the NTTF workload policy document. That topic will be addressed in a separate email.

We have borne a heavy burden of work bringing all of our policies into alignment with both the CBA and the standards of practice of our peer and aspirant institutions. This work has will pay off off for us by improving both fairness and efficiency.

Looking forward to graduation,

Randy
