coe-staff: Congratulations to Dr. Jacob and Colleagues (ITEK)!

Dear faculty and staff,

Please join us in congratulating Michelle Jacob and Joana Jansen (Northwest Indian Language Institute-NILI) for their receipt of an Interdisciplinary Award in Humanities and Social Sciences from the Vice President for Research and Innovation!

Their proposal "Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge" (ITEK) was recognized for demonstrating innovation, holding promise for external funding, and taking advantage of unique perspectives from multiple disciplines and will receive funding from the UO Foundation Board of Trustees. The two-year project has as its goals:

1. Convene an interdisciplinary faculty research group to document and compile current ITEK projects and practices, and in collaboration with Tribal research partners, identify UO's ITEK strengths, gaps, and future projects.

2. Build a database of existing and newly collected ITEK resources.

3. Train students in appropriate ITEK research.
