Dr. McDaniel is an associate professor of Special Education in the Department of Special Education and Multiple Abilities at the University of Alabama and is the Director of the Alabama Positive Behavior Support Office (APBSO). The APBSO is a statewide PBIS training and technical assistance center that focuses on supporting schools and districts in implementing PBIS with a specific focus on reducing disproportionality and exclusionary discipline practices across Alabama. She currently conducts research and teaches in the areas of: (a) secondary tier PBIS, (b) classroom management assessment and coaching, (c) PBIS for alternative education settings, and (d) early prevention for diverse populations of children at high-risk. A recent recipient of the E. G. Carr Initial Researcher Award from the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS), Dr. McDaniel currently serves on the Board of Directors for APBS and as a member of the Journal of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Behavior Disorders, and Beyond Behavior Editorial Boards. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Alabama, Dr. McDaniel was a classroom teacher for six years serving students with emotional and behavioral disorders across grades k-5 in both an alternative school setting and a mainstream elementary school.
