coe-staff: Welcome to 2017!

??Dear Faculty and Staff,


It is my distinct honor to welcome you to an exciting New Year of work in our college; an institution that continues to aspire to, and achieve, at the highest levels of academic excellence, intellectual and cultural pluralism, and inclusion.  We have, for example, improved our external research and service funding portfolio from $26 Million to 42 Million over the past three years, which is just one indicator of the academic excellence that typifies our work.  And we have increased our tenure track faculty ranks by 11 in the past two years with another 6 faculty searches under way.  These new faculty expand our fields of inquiry to allow us to better study indigenous education, educational and health disparities, education and language development of immigrant children, among other societally relevant fields of inquiry.  I am also most pleased to see our students and staff members increasingly involved in the governance of our college.  I look forward to their further inclusion, energy, and insights.


But what about this year? Well, all of you are pulling in the same direction of high aspirations for everything we do, whether it be our academic work, our workplace culture, or commitment to improving our communities.  I, and others, will report on our strategic planning, HEDCO Clinic redesign, improved scholarship opportunities for students, Committee on the Student Experience (COSE), UO EXCEL professional development unit in Portland, and numerous other activities and initiatives in the coming weeks.
