Please see below from Safety and Risk Services  in regards to implementing a comprehensive drinking water monitoring plan.

Dear UO building managers and users:

This summer, you may see or have seen university building water fixtures such as drinking fountains closed for use for brief periods of time.

The University of Oregon's Environmental Health and Safety office (ehs.uoregon.edu), part of the Safety & Risk Services unit, is implementing a comprehensive drinking water monitoring plan. The first stage focuses on testing drinking fountains and bottle spouts in all UO buildings for lead content. Thank you for your patience.

Background: The University of Oregon has collected water samples from several key buildings since 2008, including the Vivian Olum Child Development Center and Moss Street Children's Center earlier in 2016. All samples were analyzed for corrosion byproducts and lead was not detected exceeding the EPA limit of 15 parts per billion (ppb) in any of them. Since late May 2016, the UO has started a comprehensive update of its Drinking Water Monitoring Plan, using EPA-recommended best practices. The monitoring plan prioritizes buildings that are used as schools for young children, daycare facilities, and residences, to be completed by fall 2016. Other buildings will be processed through 2017. The UO has not received reports of any medical conditions supposedly resulting from lead in its drinking water. Please note that all College of Education sampling will be completed by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Our first push includes all drinking water specific fixtures, such as water fountains, kitchen sinks, instahot fixtures, etc. Remaining fixtures including hand washing sinks will also be looked at over the next year or two.
