As part of April's Child Abuse Prevention Month, 90by30 invites the community to spend an evening hearing from local psychologist Charlotte Peterson, PhD, author of "The Mindful Parent: Strategies from Peaceful Cultures to Raise Compassionate, Competent Kids."

Dr. Peterson has traveled to more than 60 countries over 40 years to bring home the world's most effective parenting techniques - techniques that foster healthy families and can prevent abuse.

In "The Mindful Parent," Dr. Peterson asks how we can raise healthier and more empathetic children - how to literally "grow kind kids" - and finds the answers in the peaceful cultures in places like Tibet, Bhutan and Bali. She integrates these lessons with 34 years of experience as a child psychologist as well as with modern research on neuroscience to offer practical parenting advice that allows infants and toddlers to thrive emotionally. Anyone concerned with the high rates of childhood psychological disorders, bullying, and peer violence in this country will want to hear her perspectives on raising compassionate kids.

The youth living at the DYS facility who take part in the culinary arts program will be providing refreshments at the event. We hold events at this location as another way to support kids in our community.
