coe-staff: Save the date! Cuentos para Dormir (Bedtime Stories by Deported Parents)

Please save the date for the following events on May 3rd!  Feel free to share to extend this invitation to colleagues and anyone else that may be interested in the following events.

The Department of Education Studies has acquired two sets of a unique and original book series called "Cuentos para dormir." These are original children's books written by deported parents living in Tijuana, Mexico for their children who are living in the USA. They tell personal stories of deportation and family separation. We are the first and only university in the USA and Mexico to have a set of these books. One set will be given to UO libraries for student/faculty check out.

Cuentos Para Dormir (Bedtime Stories by Deported Parents)--Classroom Lecture
Tuesday, May 3rd 10am
HEDCO 220 (in EDST 464--Multicultural Literacy)
Lecture by Sophia Sobko, the teacher who helped the parents with the writing process and the publishing of the books. She will discuss the themes found in the books, the process the parents went through, and the importance of having children's books in classroom that represent a diversity of experiences.

Tuesday, May3rd 3pm
180 Prince Lucien Cambell (PLC) Hall
Lecture by Sophia Sobko, the teacher who helped the parents with the writing process and the publishing of the books.In addition, the parents will be broadcast in from Tijuana, Mexico to discuss their books and to discuss issues of deportation and family separation. There will be a binational book reading with students from the Colegio de la Frontera Norte and the DREAMers Moms organization. In addition, a set of books will be given to UO libraries for check out.
