Dear All,
Please see the message below from Information Services.
In short, Guest sponsorship for wireless will be upgraded. However as of Friday, January 8, Guest wireless account will be disabled until the new sponsorship system is in place.
If you need to sponsor someone for Guest wireless between January 8 and the start of the new Guest wireless service, please contact the IS TechDesk at techdesk at uoregon.edu or 541-346-HELP.
Sincerely,

In January 2016, Information Services will be making some improvements to the UO Guest wireless service, which provides wireless network access to UO visitors.
1) New Guest Wireless Self-Service Option
Currently, many visitors rely on faculty or staff to sponsor their access to the university's wireless network. The UO employee creates a temporary account for the visitor through sponsors.uoregon.edu<https://sponsors.uoregon.edu/>.
Soon, visitors will be able to skip that step. Information Services is pleased to announce the launch of a guest wireless self-service option on January 8, 2016 (pending approval by IS's Change Advisory Board). This feature will allow UO visitors to register themselves for UO Guest wireless access for 7 days at a time. There will be no limit to the number of times a guest may self-register.
This new service will provide most visitors with wireless access without involving a sponsor. We hope this will save time and effort for UO employees and improve visitors' wireless Internet experience.
Please note that guests with self-registered accounts will not be able to access wireless at UO sports venues (Autzen Stadium, PK Park, Matthew Knight Arena, and Hayward Field). Cellular signal is a great alternative at most of these venues, where the cellular antenna network has been expanded in recent years.
2) Transition Process for Sponsored Guest Wireless Access
To launch the new self-service option, we must temporarily disable the current UO Guest wireless sponsorship service starting on January 8. Any ongoing guest sponsorships will stop working at that time. Guests may then self-register using the new self-service option.
We expect to bring the sponsorship system back into service within a few weeks, with an updated website (sponsors.uoregon.edu<https://sponsors.uoregon.edu/>). We are working with select contacts on campus, including in Athletics, to mitigate the impacts of this service transition. In the meantime, if you're a sponsor and you have a guest who needs sponsored access to wireless between Jan. 8 and when the sponsorship system returns, please contact the Technology Service Desk (techdesk at uoregon.edu<mailto:techdesk at uoregon.edu>; 541-346-4357).
Thanks in advance for your patience during this transition. We will share further updates as the project progresses.
If you have any questions, please contact the Tech Desk.
