2015 UO Latin@ heritage month
MONDAY OCTOBER 26TH
LUNES LATIN@ - "Strengthening networks of support for latin@ students" hosted THE CENTER FOR LATINO/A AND LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES (CLLAS)

Join us for an update on research to assess how Latin@ students at the University of Oregon perceive and negotiate the academic and sociocultural barriers they face on campus. This faculty research project was funded by the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) for 2014-15 and carried out by Latin@ Strategy Group (Los Pat at s) members Angel Dorantes (Education Studies); Claudia Holguin (Romance Languages); Audrey Lucero (Education Studies); Luz Romero Montaño (Romance Languages); and Analisa Taylor (Romance Languages).

6:00pm-9:00pm - Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
This popular annual event is filled with music, poetry, art, dialogue and a traditional ofrenda is constructed to celebrate the holiday. The event is co-sponsored by Oak Hill School in conjunction with the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, MEChA de UO, Adelante Sí, el Instituto de Cultura de Guanajuato, el Instituto Estatal de Migrante Guanajuatense y sus familias, and CBT Nuggets.
October 29th from 6-7PM - Artist's Talk with Catalina Delgado Trunk
Artist Catalina Delgado Trunk will discuss her intricate paper cuts, or papel picado, on view in the exhibition Voces de MisAntepasados/Voices of My Ancestors.
October 30th from 6:30PM-8:30PM - Papel Picado Workshop with Catalina Delgado Trunk
Artist Catalina Delgado Trunk will create papel picado with visitors in a drop-in workshop as part of our Día de los Muertos Celebration.

Voces de Mis Antepasados/Voices of My Ancestors: The Papercuts of Catalina Delgado Trunk
September 10 - December 6, 2015
Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Gallery
Drawing on the rich tradition of cut paper crafts (or papelpicado) in Mexico, Catalina Delgado Trunk creates intricate works that tell the stories of pre-contact indigenous cultures as well as treating more contemporary subjects. Voces de MisAntepasados examines her pieces with pre-Columbian themes.
Enrique Chagoya: Adventures of Modernist Cannibals
September 10 - December 6, 2015

Painter and printmaker Enrique Chagoya describes his work as a "conceptual fusion of opposite cultural realities" and employs what he calls "reverse anthropology." His provocative works incorporate diverse symbolic elements from pre-Columbian mythology, Western religious iconography, and American popular culture.
