Dr. Davison will present, "The MOCCA Measurement Model: Challenges and Possible Solutions." The Multiple-choice Online Causal Comprehension Assessment (MOCCA) is a diagnostic measure of reading comprehension for Grades 3-5. MOCCA distinguishes between readers with good and poor comprehension. MOCCA also tells you what readers with poor comprehension are doing when they're not comprehending well. Readers with poor comprehension tend to over-rely either on paraphrasing or making connections when reading. By distinguishing these two groups, MOCCA enables teachers to target instruction to student needs. MOCCA poses several challenges to classical and item-response theory approaches to measurement, including the use of informative distractors and the availability of rate information. Dr. Davison will discuss how the MOCCA researchers have approached these challenges to date and discuss innovative approaches utilizing nominal choice and decision theories.

Please forward this information to students who might be interested in attending.

Thank you,
EMPL Colloquium Committee
