Spring is here and arguably the prettiest time of year in Oregon. I hope you have been able to enjoy some of the fantastic weather and some much needed time off. As the weather changes, so do some of the challenges of working on campus. Below is our response to some of the most frequently asked questions that spring weather often presents:

1) When will Campus Ops turn on the air conditioning?
Typically this occurs sometime in late May. There are several factors that determine the actual date but the most prominent is the overnight low temperature. When the overnight low is above 50 degrees for five consecutive nights, Campus Ops will start the process. Typically we will have several days of warmer weather before the transition is complete and Campus Ops suggests dressing in layers to accommodate for the temperature variations.

2) Is it OK to bring pets into our buildings?
It is not acceptable to bring pets into our buildings with the exception of service animals. Owners are strongly encouraged to register them with the appropriate offices. For more information go to http://aaeo.uoregon.edu/sites/aaeo.uoregon.edu/files/Service%20Animal%20Guidelines.pdf

3) Can we bring bicycles into the buildings?
No. We spend thousands of dollars every year painting/repairing walls and cleaning our floors. There is ample bicycle parking around the complex and for those of you that would like a more secure place to park your bike, there is a bicycle cage on the north side of HEDCO and lockers to the north of Lokey. For more information go to https://parking.uoregon.edu/content/bicycling .

4) Can I open my window in my office?

Yes, but keep in mind that during the spring, open windows can be challenging to some folks that suffer from allergies. The Willamette Valley is world famous for high pollen counts during the spring months so please be respectful of your neighbors and workmates. Open windows can also adversely affect the ability of the HVAC system to run properly and efficiently, particularly if you have a thermostat in your office. Please do not leave any windows unlocked overnight.

5) Building Security:
Each individual is responsible for securing their own office. Propping open doors leading into suites "after-hours" is unacceptable and poses a substantial security risk. Please use the buddy system to allow people re-entry after-hours.

       6) Classroom and Conference room furniture configuration:
The furniture in our buildings allow for a tremendous amount of flexibility in regards to orientation and utilization. Please return it to the default configuration posted in the room and lock the windows after use.
