Dear Students, Staff, and Faculty,
My letter written in response to a set of proposed new federal regulations on teacher preparation programs is attached. If you are not already familiar with the proposal, I encourage you to explore it by following the first link below. Letters like the one attached take many forms, as you will see in the information below, provided by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE). We at the UO are signatories to several letters, including those from The Oregon Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (OACTE) and the Learning and Education Academic Research Network (LEARN), which comprises about 20 leading research university colleges of education like ours that advocate for more federal support of research. I should also explain that CADREI is an abbreviation for the Council of Academic Deans of Research Education Institutions, of which we are also a member.
I am writing today simply to make you aware of some of the issues that we try to address as part of our collective efforts to prepare teachers and other education-related personnel.
Regards,
Randy
Dear CADREI Deans
Today is the deadline to submit your comments.
Below is additional information from Deborah Koolbeck, Director of Government Relations, AACTE
Below is a list of the AACTE resources on the proposed regulations on teacher preparation programs, all of which are publically available.
Please feel free to forward this information to colleagues at your home institutions as well as colleagues around the nation. Please note, the template letter can be modified to meet your needs. In addition, we received & included a template letter for students from a member, as well as a supporting document - so our reach could expand.
We are just above 1700 comments, so we need to keep the drumbeat going. Please let me know what else AACTE can do to support you in your outreach to get faculty, K-12 partners, stakeholders, and others to comment before the February 2 deadline.
Best,
Deb

To further assist you, your institutional leadership, and faculty to draft and submit comments on the proposed regulations on teacher preparation programs by the deadline of February 2, 2015, below are the resources developed by AACTE for you to use. You should feel free to modify the documents to suit your needs or that of your institution.
Some AACTE members are having letter writing parties (with libations) and other members are doing heavy outreach to K-12 partners and other stakeholders to ensure that the voices of all who will be affected are heard via the public comment period.
Please feel free to share these resources far and wide.
In addition, we are currently kicking off a twitter campaign using the hashtag #EDregs - we hope that you can participate. A blog on the campaign and how to get involved can be found http://edprepmatters.net/2015/01/member-voices-join-aacte-twitter-campaign-on-edregs/

[AACTE Member Alert]
This is your last weekend to draft and submit comments on the U.S. Department of Education's proposed regulations for teacher preparation programs. The comment period closes Monday, February 2.
Making your voice heard is vital. There are multiple letter-writing campaigns under way in support of the regulations. Even if your institution or your state chapter has submitted comments, be sure to submit your individual response as well. Both the number and quality of the comments matters.
There is too much at stake in the profession for your voice not to be heard!
