The Counseling Psychology and Human Services (CPHS) Department is pleased to announce the following colloquium presentation by a candidate for the open rank, tenure-related position in the Counseling Psychology program.
Marianismo and the Latina Psyche:
Cultural Context for Research and Evidence-Based Practice

Dr. Linda Castillo, Professor, Texas A&M University

Dr. Castillo received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah. She has been a faculty member at Texas A&M University since 2000, teaching graduate level courses such as Mexican American Psychology, Multicultural Counseling, and Career Counseling. She has chaired almost 20 Dissertation committees, published more than 50 refereed articles as well as chapters and research reports, and has been recognized with many awards and nominations including Outstanding Mentor (2012) and Many Faces of Counseling Psychology (2008). She is a licensed psychologist and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Division 17. Her research interests are in the areas of impact of the acculturation process on Mexican American educational disparities, scale development and validity of cultural constructs, and Marianismo among Latinas. She recently completed a six-year Gear-Up grant in which she was awarded $2.8 million from the U.S. Department of Education to provide services to high-poverty secondary schools in Texas. Dr. Castillo is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Psychology and a member of the Journal of Hispanic Higher Education. (CV attached).
